This workshop will discuss the role of technology in networked publics and identify some of the common forms of violence and abuse which currently occur online, from sexting to cyberbullying to cyberstalking. Participants will discuss how violence can occur online, how to identify violence online, and options for prevention and safety.

Workshop Objectives:

• Participants will define “networked publics” and discuss the role of technology in networked publics.
• Participants will be able to define at least 2 ways violence and abuse can occur online or through other forms of technology.
• Participants will be able to create a safety plan for someone who is being abused online. 
• Participants will be able to identify strategies for preventing violence online.
